The idea of having certain works always in print & available is an old one for book publishers, but something comics publishers have only really embraced in the last thirty years. Mike & Greg walk the comics publishing landscape and survey the efforts publishers both big & small are making to keep their most accessible stories available to the public. Why was DC one of the first companies to have success with keeping a backlist in print? Why couldn't Marvel duplicate that, and are they still second-best? What kind of risk/reward questions do publishers ask themselves, and what kind of answers do they get? Is "in print" even a concern now with digital distribution? And how has the Image Comics publishing model enabled that company to do more with less? All that, plus why Warren Ellis saw all this coming even as he was utterly ruining the Marvel Universe, in this week's episode!
