With FCBD 2017 mere days away, the lads take a look at how the annual LCS outreach program has grown from such humble beginnings while picking out their favorites from the FIFTY different titles offered up gratis this year. Does FCBD offer a more level playing field for smaller publishers to be noticed by all the new customers? Which comics pass and fail the thumbnail test? All that, plus an unpacking of DC’s decision to reprint a single WW issue for its FCBD offering, why Marvel loves its Secrets like DC loves its Crisises, the similarities of Captains, and why you should STILL buy something at the comic shop (even on FCBD) on this free-form Free Comic Book Day episode!

Another “Previews” in the pullbox means another look into our comics future! With focus shifting to the Premier section, what forthcoming June 2017 releases and discussion pieces catch Mike & Greg’s attention from Diamond’s top-tier publishers? Dark Horse Horror (with or without Hellboy)! The multiplatform juggernaut known as Clue (a game, then a movie, then a comic)! Further exploration of the Mike Mignola Unified Theory of Collection Covers! All that plus trying to describe Howard Chaykin, making comics that can't be read, why all these adult coloring books haven't sparked a “Comics Twart”-style jam collective among colorists yet, the many stages of the Big Two reprinting lifecycle, and more as they wrap up their efficient look at April’s “Previews” catalog!

If the brightest light casts the darkest shadow, then novelist Alex Segura made the perfect choice in setting his Pete Fernandez series of mystery novels in Miami. And if his name seems familiar, it should be to anyone listening to this show or checking out Multiversity Comics on a regular basis: Segura is not only the "PR guy" for Archie Comics, he also edits their Dark Circle line of titles as well as writing a few from time to time. But today's interview focuses on those mystery novels, the third of which ("Dangerous Ends") hit bookstores earlier this week. Greg finds out how Alex handles having to hit certain genre expectations while still finding something personal to say in his work, the benefits of writing more than one book at a time, some advice for how to promote your work without turning people off, and just what "Noir at the Bar" entails. All that and more on this week's episode!

A planet-killing asteroid heading straight for Earth may seem like The End of Life As We Know It, but it's just the starting point for Lion Forge's Catalyst Prime line of superhero titles. Senior editor Joseph Phillip Illidge makes a quick return to the underground recording studio to lay out just what he and his hand-picked team of creators (including Alex Di Campi, David F. Walker, Amy Chu, Joe Casey, and more) have up their sleeves to save us from a fate even worse than armageddon: boring comics. He talks about the Catalyst Prime 2017 rollout, what his thoughts and goals are for the line in general, and how having the opportunity to tell these kinds of stories for today's readers is a full-circle milestone in his comics career.
